Intro
kwort-webserver is a very small linux distribution based on kwort 3 which is based on Crux and was based on Slackware. It ships apache, mod_perl, postgresql and some common perl packages from cpan.
Kwort-Webserver is a complete linux distribution that you can install from cd or from the iso file (in virtualbox e.g.).
The version with gcc on board has 67MB which can be used to develop further packages for and without gcc it could be around 56MB.
The Background
David B. Cortarello (Nomius) and me (Andreas Schipplock) met shortly before the Zenwalk Linux clash, I still hacked on the zenwalk linux distribution, especially on the installer. I created “gnx.in”, a linux distribution with netbsd’s package management. After “gnx.in” I helped Nomius with Kwort’s installer and stripped it down as far as I could (Nomius put its hands on the installer again in kwort3 codewise and cleared out some of the rotten parts pat volkerding created and nobody else understood). I added “lzma” support and made several improvements over the time like progress bars and less dialogs.
And because kwort 3 is a solid clean system and because of my involvement I know the system really well, so this is my choice for “kwort-webserver” and why I want to keep the name related to kwort itself.
It installs in minutes, doesn’t need much space and is fast. It sets up postgresql for you after the first boot with a default user “postgres” and a default password “kwort” and all you have to do after setup is simply connecting with pgadminIII e.g. and reset the password, create new databases, etc…it’s all ready to run out of the box.
